It is difficult to quantify the effect a positive corporate culture can have on a business. Companies like Apple, Southwest Airlines, Dell, and Pixar owe some of their success to the positive environment their employees work in. It's hard to say for sure just how much, but one thing is for sure - the people who work for those companies undeniably love their jobs.

For those of you who are tempted to think that employee enthusiasm is skin deep, I'd like to tell you about a friend who works for Southwest Airlines. To say that my friend likes working for Southwest would be an understatement. He loves it. He has bought into the culture that Southwest promotes 100% ...to the point that he as small Southwest Airlines model airplanes in his home on the wall near the pictures of his kids...talk about loyalty.
I think about the jobs that I've had in the past and I don't think I've ever felt the pride that my friend feels for Southwest. It's a tragedy, really.
What makes the difference? Why do companies like Pixar become famous for liberating their employees from the daily grind, while others suffer from the debilitating cancer of negative feeling that comes from a management against employee, or even employee against employee, mentality.
